For the Beef and Noodles

  • Egg Noodles – You’ll need 2 cups of uncooked noodles. They cook quickly and soak up the savory gravy beautifully.
  • Lean Ground Beef – One pound browns up nicely and provides the rich base for the sauce.
  • Onion – A medium chopped onion adds sweetness and depth as it cooks with the beef.
  • Garlic – Use 2–3 minced cloves to bring warmth and extra flavor to the sauce.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Just a tablespoon adds a subtle tang and boosts the savory notes.
  • Italian Seasoning – A 1/4 teaspoon gives the dish a gentle herbal lift.
  • Flour – A 1/4 cup helps thicken the gravy so it clings perfectly to the noodles.
  • Beef Broth – Two cups create the base of the gravy, tying all the flavors together.
  • Salt & Pepper – Add these to taste at the end to balance everything.

Ingredients

(Measurements unchanged)
  • 2 cups uncooked egg noodles
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook them following the package directions.
  2. While the noodles cook, warm a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Break the meat apart as it cooks and continue until it’s deeply browned, about 10 minutes.
If your beef isn’t lean, drain off excess fat—but leave a couple of tablespoons in the pan for flavor.
  3. Lower the heat to medium. Stir in the garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning. Let everything cook together for 1 minute.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir for 1–2 minutes. This step helps the gravy thicken without a raw flour taste.
  5. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly. Scrape the bottom of the pan to free any browned bits.
  6. Let the mixture simmer for 5–10 minutes, stirring now and then, until the gravy becomes as thick as you like.
If it thickens too much, add a splash more broth.
  7. Drain the noodles once cooked. Add them directly into the skillet and toss to coat them in the beef gravy. Taste and season with salt and pepper before serving.
Notes
This recipe is meant to be budget-friendly and straightforward, making it easy to adapt. Feel free to experiment—many cooks enjoy adding mushrooms, peppers, extra herbs, or a spoonful of sour cream or cream cheese.

1. Can I swap the ground beef for something else?

Absolutely! This recipe is super flexible. Ground turkey, or even a mix of meats all work a treat. If you’ve got leftover roast beef, chop it up and toss it in. Just keep a little fat in the pan so the gravy still turns out beautifully silky.

2. My gravy isn’t thickening — what did I do wrong?

Don’t stress, it’s an easy fix. Just simmer it for another minute or two and it will naturally reduce. Too thick? Add a splash of broth. Too thin? Sprinkle in a touch more flour mixed with cold water. You’re in charge of the gravy destiny!

3. How do I stop the noodles from going mushy?

Cook them just to al dente — no more! Egg noodles soften quickly, and they continue absorbing sauce once mixed in. Drain them right away, toss with the beef mixture, and you’ll be rewarded with perfectly tender (not soggy!) noodles.

4. Can I make this ahead or freeze it?

Yes… with one little trick: freeze the beef and gravy, not the noodles. The sauce reheats like a dream, and all you have to do is boil fresh noodles when you’re ready to serve. Add a splash of broth when reheating if the sauce thickens too much.

5. Can I bulk this up with veggies or extra add-ins?

Oh yes — go wild! Mushrooms, peas, spinach, corn, green beans… they all work beautifully. Stir in quick-cooking veggies near the end, or sauté heartier ones with the onion. It’s an easy way to make dinner stretch further without extra effort.
